"Carmel Duffy is the eldest child of a brutal and abusive marriage, and she can't wait to leave home. She's equally determined to have no husband or family of her own-what she wants more than anything is to be a nurse. As soon as she turns eighteen, she heads for Birmingham and begins her training.
However, her resolve is tested when Dr Paul Conolly comes onto her ward. Gradually he wins her heart, and they agree to marry, both certain that they want no children. but World War Two's year of courage and devastation will change everything. Carmel will find that the future is very different to the one she thought she wanted for so long..."
I liked that book for many things. But the main reasons are:
First of all, I absolutely adore WWII novels. I think that it is the most romantic period of all times.
Second, I love this uncomlicated love that all heroes have for their heroines. I mean come on, no hurry, no guys who want a girl for one reason only (I think you know what I'm talking about.)
Third, all the heroes are Generals, or RAF pilots or some kind of fighters. ( I like men with uinforms, what can I say?)
Finally, I like those silly girls who's fate isn't so generous with them, but despite all that they have the courage to stand up and be so brave...
